Common Maytag Washer Problems
- Washer not draining or not spinning. Maytag says to confirm the lid or door is fully shut and the load is balanced, then check for oversudsing, a kinked or clogged drain hose, standpipe height and, on some front loaders, a clogged drain pump filter. - Washer leaking. Maytag points first to loose inlet hose connections or missing hose washers, then to the drain hose and a backed-up household drain, and to clothes added mid-cycle that raise the water over the tub. Source: Maytag Product Help - Leaking Water Underneath - Washer
- Washer not filling. Maytag says to make sure both faucets are fully open, the inlet hoses are not kinked, and the inlet screens on the water valve are not clogged. Source: Maytag Product Help - Checking the Fill Hoses if the Washer is not Filling
- Off balance, shaking or walking. Maytag says to spread the load evenly, confirm the shipping bolts were removed, and level the washer so all four feet sit firmly on the floor. Source: Maytag Product Help - Washer is Vibrating, Walking or Moving
- Lid or door won't lock. For lid or door lock codes, Maytag says to check for clothing or objects blocking the latch area and then reset the washer by unplugging it for five minutes. Source: Maytag Product Help - F5E2 - Error Code (top load)
- Washer odor. Maytag links odor to skipped cleanings, wet loads left sitting and too much detergent or softener, and recommends regular washer cleaning and moving loads out promptly. Source: Maytag - How to repair a washing machine (top load)

Care Maytag Recommends
- Run the Clean Washer cycle with a washer cleaning tablet about once a month, or when the clean washer light comes on or odor appears; without that cycle, use the hottest, highest water setting. Source: Maytag Product Help - Cleaning Washers with affresh
- On front loaders, wipe and dry the door seal folds, remove wet loads promptly and leave the door slightly open after use to limit mildew and odor. Source: Maytag Product Help - Cleaning a Front Load Washer Door Seal
- Clean the front load drain pump filter every few months or as needed to clear lint and debris; check the owner's manual for its location on your model. Source: Maytag Product Help - Cleaning the Pump Filter - Front Load Washer
- Use only HE detergent in HE washers and measure it per the detergent maker's directions, since too much causes oversudsing, poor rinsing and residue. Source: Maytag Product Help - HE Detergent use in a Washer
